1 Celebrate National Women's Health & Fitness Day - BodiMojo

Although we here at?BodiMojo strive to lead healthy lives every day, September 26 is an extra special day for women and girls to celebrate their bodies and well-being. The Health Information Resource Center (HIRC) is hosting the 11th?Annual National Women?s Health & Fitness Day.

So we say: stretch those muscles for some fitness and fun!

The fact that this event is celebrated nationally is what makes it so special. Fitness Day reports that an estimated 1,000 groups across the country will host fitness and health events for women at various community locations, like hospitals, health clubs, park and recreation departments, schools, and more. And an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 women of all ages will participate in such activities as fitness walks, exercise demonstrations, health fairs and health information workshops. It sounds like there?s so much to gain from attending just one of these events.?Grab your friends and check out what?s happening in your area.

But Health and Fitness Day is so much more than just enjoying exercise with other women and girls. ?Our goal for this national event is to encourage women to take control of their health: to learn the facts they need to make smart health choices, and to make time for regular physical activity,? says Patricia Henze, Executive Director of the Health Information Resource Center. ?Women?s Health & Fitness Day is also designed to showcase the many women?s health resources available through the local organizations that will host events on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.?

I think fitness and a healthy diet are so important in a woman?s life, especially as she is growing and maturing. But for teenagers especially, life is hectic. With school, activities, homework and family life, we need to find time for ourselves. I feel good when I exercise because it gives me the strength and energy to do more, so I definitely try to fit it into my routine.

Whether it?s going for a run in the morning, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, trying a Zumba class, or joining a gym, it?s important to fit exercise into the day. If you need a little push to get started, check out National Women?s Health and Fitness Day to see how you can get active.
